AKIPRESS.COM – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the official ceremony of arrival of the container train en route from China’s Xi’an to Tashkent, Akorda press service reported.

Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev and Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov reported on the ongoing joint work to expand the transport and transit capabilities of the two countries.

As part of the agreements reached in Khiva in April this year on freight transportation along China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan route and developing the Trans-Afghan route, accelerated delivery of goods was organized. The container train covered a distance of 4,486 km in a record 5 days. The freight train was sent from the terminal in the port of Xi’an through the territory of Kazakhstan to Tashkent.

The shortest time for cargo transportation was made possible through use of terminal capabilities of Kazakhstan in China, as well as interaction of the railway administrations of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to expand border infrastructure. Last year, the volume of freight transportation between the countries exceeded 31 million tons, an increase of 17.2% compared to 2022.
