China slams U.S. clamoring for sanctions on HKSAR officials, personnel

[ad_1]

The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council on Sunday condemned some politicians in the U.S. Congress for clamoring for imposing sanctions on government officials and judicial personnel in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

The office firmly supports government officials and judicial personnel in the HKSAR for fulfilling their duties in safeguarding national security in accordance with the law, said a spokesperson of the office.

Noting that the rule of law in the HKSAR has been widely applauded by the international community, the spokesperson said government officials and judicial personnel in the HKSAR exercise law enforcement and judicial powers in cases of serious crimes endangering national security in accordance with the Basic Law and the national security law, performing their duties of safeguarding the rule of law in Hong Kong, which is unquestionable.

Some U.S. politicians threaten to impose sanctions on them, which completely deviates from the spirit of the rule of law and ignores international justice, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that the acts of those politicians can only confirm their criminal collusion with the anti-China groups in Hong Kong.
