Li Keqiang, former premier of China, dead after heart attack

Li Keqiang, China’s former premier who stepped down this March, passed away in Shanghai on Friday at the age of 68. State broadcaster CCTV is reporting that he suffered a heart attack one day earlier.

He consistently pushed the private economy, foreign investment and simplified government procedures during his tenure, although his power was diminished when President Xi Jinping introduced party committees to oversee the economy, diplomacy, finance, reforms and other matters.
