Over the past decade, China has actively practiced the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, always placed neighborhood diplomacy at the top of its overall diplomacy architecture and unswervingly pursed the path of long-standing good-neighborliness and friendship and common development and prosperity, senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi said on Tuesday.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when addressing an international symposium on China’s neighborhood diplomacy held in Beijing.
He noted that the above-mentioned principle has injected strong impetus into Asia’s cooperation, solidarity and revitalization and China is ready to work with all parties to cherish the situation of good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, and jointly promote the principle in the future.
Wang urged regional countries to keep united and self-reliant, adhere to the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, establish a security model for Asia based on mutual respect, seek common ground while reserving differences, dialogue and consultation, and always take the future of Asia’s long-lasting peace and security into their own hands.
It is necessary to prioritize development, insist on mutual benefit, openness and cooperation rather than zero-sum competition and decoupling in order to achieve high-quality development through higher levels of cooperation, said Wang.
He urged all sides to advocate the common values of peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom, practicing a regionalism of open and seeking harmony without uniformity, and complementing each other’s strengths in exchanges and mutual learning.
He also called for integrating the regional country’s own development into the regional development.
Asia is at an important juncture towards development and revitalization, and “the choices we make today will shape Asia’s tomorrow,” Wang stressed, adding the key to Asia’s revitalization lies in regional unity and joint endeavor.
He said that China will maintain the continuity and stability of its neighboring foreign policy, uphold the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, deepen its friendship, cooperation and integration of interests with neighboring countries and jointly work with them to build an Asian homeland of peace, tranquility, prosperity, beauty and friendly coexistence.
In this regard, Wang has put forward four suggestions, including promoting the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with the development strategies of the regional countries, accelerating regional economic integration and facilitating trade cooperation, respecting the development paths independently chosen by each country and resolutely opposing interference by external forces in the internal affairs of the regional countries, and promoting Asian values centered on peace, cooperation, inclusiveness and integration to deepen exchanges and mutual understanding among civilizations.
The symposium, themed “Amity, Sincerity, Mutual Benefit and Inclusiveness: New Dimensions, New Progress and New Vision,” was held to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the principle in China’s neighborhood diplomacy.
Political figures from neighboring countries, heads of international and regional organizations, diplomatic envoys of neighboring countries to China and renowned experts and scholars attended the Symposium online or in person.
In a meeting with the foreign guests who attended the symposium in Beijing, Wang noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the BRI, the concept of a global community with a shared future and the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, which bears great significance.
China will take the new stage of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation as an opportunity to continue to deepen the friendship and mutual trust with neighboring countries, safeguard the overall situation of peace, stability and development in the region, and jointly advance Asia’s modernization process, building an Asian homeland with a shared future and common prosperity.
