Asian Games: Wu Yu clinches first boxing gold

China’s Wu Yiming, Yu Zhiying and Li He joined efforts to claim the women’s team gold medals in the sport of Go during the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Tuesday.
In Go or weiqi, players’ ranks are indicated by “dan” from the lowest, which is 30th, up to the highest, ninth dan.
Both rated as fifth-dan pro players, Wu Yiming won the first match with a 2-0 victory over Kim Eun-ji of Team Republic of Korea (ROK).
Ninth-dan pro player Oh Yu-jin of ROK battled back with a 2-0 win over seventh-dan Yu Zhiying of China.
Fifth-dan Li He of China triumphed in the third match with a 2-0 win over ninth-dan Choi Je-ong of ROK.
The best of three games spared the match between China’s fifth-dan player Wang Yubo and eighth-dan Kim Chae-young of ROK.
ROK took the silver while Japan took bronze in the women’s team event.

ROK won the men’s team gold after six matches on Tuesday.
In the gold medal final, China and ROK featured six ninth-dan pro players respectively.
Li Qincheng of China led the first-match victory with a 2-0 win over Byeon San-gil of ROK.
ROK’s Kim Myung-hun, Park Jeong-hwan, Shin-Jin-seo and Shin Min-jun defeated China’s Zhao Chenyu, Mi Yuting, Yang Dingxin, and Ke Jie in the next five matches respectively.
China took the silver while Japan took bronze in the men’s team event.
The sport of Go made its Asian Games debut in 16th Asian Games, Guangzhou, in 2010.

In boxing, China’s Wu Yu clinched the gold in the women’s 50kg division Tuesday.
The 28-year-old Chinese female boxer defeated 30-year-old Chuthamat Raksat of Thailand with a 5-0 win on points in three rounds to claim the first boxing gold medal.
