Han Zheng urges China-U.S. relations back to sound, stable track

Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Tuesday met with former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson in Beijing, urging the U.S. to meet China halfway to jointly push China-U.S. relations back to a sound and stable track.

China-U.S. relations are the most important bilateral relations in the world, Han noted, adding that as the world’s largest developing country and developed country, respectively, China and the U.S. should enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields to promote global economic recovery and address global challenges.

China has always viewed and handled Sino-U.S. relations in accordance with the three principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, Han said.

Noting that China’s economy has maintained recovery momentum since this year, Han said China welcomes more U.S. enterprises to invest in China to share development opportunities.

Paulson, for his part, voiced his confidence in China’s economic development prospects.

U.S.-China relations hold great significance to the world, he said, calling on the two countries to strengthen communication and dialogue, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, as well as economic and trade cooperation, and address global challenges such as climate change.

He also vowed to play a positive role in promoting the stable development of bilateral relations.
