Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday met with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni in Hangzhou, capital city of east China’s Zhejiang Province.
Noting that this year marks the 65th anniversary of China-Cambodia diplomatic ties and the Year of China-Cambodia Friendship, Xi stated that he has met with King Norodom Sihamoni twice this year, demonstrating the two countries’ traditional friendship.
Earlier, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet visited Beijing and the two countries agreed to deepen the China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation and further promote the building of a high-quality, high-level and high-standard China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era, Xi noted.
China values its special friendship with the Cambodian royal family and attaches great importance to the development of its relations with Cambodia, he added.
Xi emphasized that it has been ten years since he first mentioned the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness. And China-Cambodia relations have been guided by the four-point principle as well as a good-neighborly and friendly policy, he added.
Xi said China supports Cambodia in taking a development path that suits its national conditions and realities, achieving stability and development, and playing an important role on the international and regional stages. The two sides should maintain high-level exchanges and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, he said.
Xi called on both sides to enrich the China-Cambodia “Diamond Hexagon” cooperation framework, jointly build the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor,” and promote the early implementation of relevant key cooperation projects. He also urged more cooperation in various fields, including education, culture and youth.
King Norodom Sihamoni said it is a great honor to lead a delegation to attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. China has successfully hosted the Asian Games twice, and he believes that under the strong leadership of President Xi, China will once again present a spectacular sports extravaganza to the world and make new contributions to promoting the unity and friendship of the Asian family.
The Cambodian people will always remember the brotherly friendship forged by King Father Sihanouk and the older-generation leaders of China, and cherish the unbreakable iron-clad friendship, and fully agree with the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness in neighboring diplomacy put forward by President Xi, the King said.
Cambodia firmly adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to join hands with China to build the Belt and Road Initiative and build a Cambodia-China community with a shared future, he added.
