President of Central American Parliament to visit China

The president of the Central American Parliament Amado Cerrud will lead a delegation to visit China from September 19 to 23, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

The parliament president is making the visit at the invitation of Zhao Leji, chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, according to Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing, Mao noted that the Central American Parliament adopted the resolution to revoke the “permanent observer status” of the so-called “Legislative Yuan” of the Taiwan region and accept the National People’s Congress of China as a permanent observer on August 22.

“China welcomes and commends the resolution,” she said. “This again shows that the one-China principle represents the unstoppable trend of the times and has the overwhelming support of the people.”

China stands ready to develop friendly cooperation with the Central American Parliament on the basis of the one-China principle, she added.
