Russian President Vladimir Putin has “gratefully accepted” top leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un’s invitation to visit his country, the Kremlin said on Thursday, after the two men held a rare summit in Russia’s Far East.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the summit between Putin and Kim on Wednesday as “timely, useful and constructive” during which Putin showed Kim round Russia’s most modern space launch facility.

Kim’s visit to Russia would continue for several days, but Putin has now returned to Moscow, Peskov told reporters on Thursday, adding that Moscow would continue developing relations with Pyongyang.

He said the two leaders gifted each other during their meeting.

Putin “gave (Kim) a rifle from our production of the highest quality. In return, he also received a DPRK-made rifle” and Putin also gifted Kim “a glove from a space suit that has been in space several times,” Peskov said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would visit DPRK in October, Peskov noted.
