Indian PM Modi says G20 leaders’ declaration adopted
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that the Group of 20 (G20) had reached a consensus on a leaders’ declaration.
“On the back of the hard work of all the teams, we have received consensus on the G20 Leaders Summit Declaration. I announce the adoption of this declaration,” Modi told the bloc leaders in New Delhi.
Acting in concrete ways through partnerships, the leaders have committed to working on 10 aspects, including a strong, sustainable and inclusive growth, multilateral institutions for the 21st century, technological transformation and digital public infrastructure and financial sector issues, according to the declaration.
Facing an uneven recovery and cognizant of the need to boost long-term growth, the bloc will implement well-calibrated macroeconomic and structural policies, said the declaration.
The declaration also showed that the bloc will protect the vulnerable, through promoting equitable growth and enhancing macroeconomic and financial stability. “Such an approach will help resolve the cost-of-living crisis and unlock strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth.”
Noting the global progress on SDGs is off-track with only 12 percent of the targets are on track at the midway point to 2030, the declaration said the bloc will leverage its convening power and its collective resolve to fully and effectively implement the 2030 Agenda and accelerate progress toward the SDGs, in a timely manner, to shape the world we want to see for our future generations.
As for eliminating hunger and malnutrition, the declaration said the leaders commit to facilitate open, fair, predictable, and rules-based agriculture, food and fertilizer trade, not impose export prohibitions or restrictions and reduce market distortions, in accordance with relevant WTO rules.
For the sake of future generations, the declaration also said the G20 leaders resolve to pursue environmentally sustainable and inclusive economic growth and development in an integrated, holistic and balanced manner. “We commit to urgently accelerate our actions to address environmental crises and challenges including climate change.”
