New cabinet members under Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin were sworn in at the Royal Palace on Tuesday.
Earlier, Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn has endorsed the new cabinet with Srettha serving as the prime minister and finance minister.
The king appointed 34 members of the cabinet as selected by Srettha, including six deputy prime ministers and other ministers.
All cabinet ministers pledged their loyalty during the ceremony at the Dusit Palace in Bangkok. The government will deliver its policy statement to parliament on September 11.
The Pheu Thai Party, which leads the coalition government, will oversee 10 major ministries, including defense, finance, transport, commerce, public health, and foreign affairs, while its largest coalition partner, the Bhumjaithai Party, will oversee the interior, education, and labor ministries.
Srettha, the candidate of the Pheu Thai Party, was elected as the country’s new prime minister in August in a parliamentary vote.
He said his administration will focus on addressing people’s needs in a televised address after being sworn-in.
“There are many problems so we will work tirelessly every day… we will address the demands of the people.”
